Dentals

We pride ourselves in performing a very high standard of medicine especially when it comes to oral/teeth health. Tartar on an animal's teeth puts many organs at risk for developing infections.

Besides the local infection that can cause teeth to abcess resulting in loss of that tooth, the constant bacterial load is stressful and damaging to the liver, kidneys, heart and lungs.

Keeping your pet's mouth clean from tartar and infection is one of the best things you can do for your pet's overall health and longevity.

Dental check list

During our dental cleanings, we first scale off the tartar and calculus that has built up over the years. Second we evaluate the gum line and check for pockets and other subtle signs of abcessation of the teeth. If this evaluation raises any concerns, we routinely will take a digital dental radiograph (x-ray) to evaluate suspect teeth for minor abscesses and resorptive lesions. If the tooth is salvagable, we apply a long term local antibiotic called Doxirobe gel that will help save the tooth. If the tooth is too badly damaged or abscessed the tooth is extracted. Lastly we apply a sealant to the teeth that will help prevent bacteria from developing tartar on the teeth.
